When thinking about your pregnancy, there are several questions that can come to mind, and one that gets asked often is how many weeks pregnant am i ?
Well, just like conception, there is no single answer for how far pregnant am I, but here’s is the best description of being pregnant.
First things fist, pregnancy does not begin when partners have sex, but rather can take up 6 days after having intercourse for the sperm and egg to mate and form a fertilized egg.
But that’s not all—it can take an additional 6 to 10 days for the fertilized egg to fully implant itself in the lining of the uterus.
Long story short—you get pregnant during your implantation period when the necessary hormones to support your pregnancy are released.
We hate to break it to you, but there is no sure shot way of telling when you ovulated or conceived.
In order to eradicate some of the guesswork, most people and health care professionals will calculate your pregnancy based on your LMP (Last Menstrual Period).
If you’d like to work out how many days pregnant you are, you should try to determine when your last period started. The first day of your LMP is basically day one of your pregnancy.
Many women prefer to measure their pregnancy from the day they most likely ovulated in the month they got pregnant.
The results of this calculation will render the estimated date of conception, which is typically two weeks after the first day of your last menstrual period.
Speaking of LMP, the other question that may spring to mind is what if I don’t know my LMP or I have irregular periods?
Pregnancy calculators including due date calculators give you the best results if your menstrual cycle is regular or you have a 28 day menstrual cycle.
If you have an irregular period cycle, you may not be able to determine the date of your LMP, and if your cycle is different across months, counting from the first day of your LMP may not be a date you can depend on.
