How This Line Progression Calculator Works

You enter serial home pregnancy tests with date (or DPO), test brand, hydration/time of day, and line intensity relative to control. The tool normalizes each test so cross-day comparisons are less affected by brand sensitivity and dilution.

Normalization model

Normalized score = Intensity Γ— Hydration factor Γ— (10 / Brand LOD)

For nearby tests 1–3 days apart, the median ratio of normalized values determines short-term trend (rising, plateau, or falling). With three or more points, the tool can fit an exponential trend to estimate doubling time and project when line intensity may approach control intensity.

Important limitation

This tool is educational only. Home line darkness is not a precise assay and cannot diagnose viability or ectopic pregnancy. For clinical decisions, use serial serum Ξ²-hCG and ultrasound with clinician guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions answered by our medical team

Not always. Line darkness can be affected by brand sensitivity, urine concentration, and reading conditions. A trend over multiple tests is more useful than one test.
