Second Trimester Pregnancy Guide
Often called the “golden trimester,” weeks 14–27 bring more energy, a visible baby bump, first baby movements, and the exciting anatomy scan. This is when many parents begin to truly feel the pregnancy.
What Happens in the Second Trimester?
The second trimester spans weeks 14–27 and is often the most comfortable period of pregnancy. The intense nausea and fatigue of the first trimester typically subside, replaced by renewed energy and the joy of feeling your baby move for the first time. Your belly becomes visibly pregnant, and the baby transitions from a small fetus to a viable preemie capable of survival with medical support by week 24.
The anatomy scan at 18–22 weeks is a major milestone — your provider will examine all the baby’s organs, measure growth, check the placenta, and can tell you the baby’s sex if you choose to find out. The glucose tolerance test at 24–28 weeks screens for gestational diabetes, which affects about 6–9% of pregnancies.
