📖 Week 12 Pregnancy — In-Depth Guide

Things are changing quickly in your week 12 of pregnancy, and why wouldn’t they; after all you’re nearing the end of your first trimester.

Good news is that your hormones are likely to start relaxing a bit resulting in hopefully in a fewer pregnancy symptoms.

🩺12th Week Pregnancy Symptoms

when you’re 12 weeks pregnant ,the symptoms such as morning sickness and fatigue will begin to subside as your hormones calm down.

But the downside is that they may be replaced with other symptoms such as dizziness and headaches, and more including:

Spotting

Spotting at week 12

Bleeding or spotting in your 12th week of pregnancy may ring an alarm, but there could be several normal reasons for it starting with the fact that your cervix is a lot more sensitive, so simply having sex could trigger it.

However, what you should do is keep your OB informed especially if the flow is heavy.

Increased vaginal discharge

This is normal and the good thing is that it greatly lowers the risk of vaginal infection.

But if the color of the discharge is not clear, but rather pink, brown or green, it could be signs of an infection so call your doctor right away.

Headaches

Headache at week 12

You may experience headaches as early as 5 weeks pregnant, which in most cases they will start to intensify right around 12 weeks pregnant.

The best way to deal with it is to pay close attention to whats causing the headaches, but if it gets out of hand such as migraines, get in touch with your OB.

Dizziness

Dizziness at week 12

This is also mainly caused by varying hormone levels, and the best solutions to prevent or reduce it drinking plenty of water and eating small snacks throughout the day.

If it gets out of control, your doctor will be in the best position to recommend the remedy.

🤰Inside your Belly in Week 12

At 12 weeks, you baby bump is official and not caused by bloating. This is often the time when mom’s-to-be reveal the good news of their pregnancy to their friends and loved ones.

If you haven’t done so already, this is also the best time to start taking photos of your pregnant belly, because you’ll definitely want some great memories to cherish of each milestone of your pregnancy.

Your baby at week 12 pregnancy has developed all its important body parts, so your belly is growing to accommodate this change.

In fact, your baby will now begin its growth and mature rapidly, where the organs and tissues will grow and develop at an accelerated pace.

You can likely see the movement of your baby in an ultrasound in week 12 owing to its developing reflexes, and similarly if you’re pregnant with twins.

Before the end of your first trimester, you will most likely had two prenatal visits, and the number of visits depends on your OB and what your medical insurance covers.

Your 12 week pregnancy ultrasound will not in most cases reveal your baby’s gender, and the current anatomy will leave with guessing.

However, your OB will be able to see your baby’s gender around week 20 of your pregnancy, when they administer a mid-pregnancy anatomy scan.

You may have to take a few genetic tests in week 12 of pregnancy in order to ensure your baby’s health is in good order, and to reduce the risk of birth defects or any other issues. If you’re not sure about any of these tests, be sure to seek clarification from your pregnancy doctor.

👶Your Baby's Development in Week 12

At week 12 of your pregnancy, your baby’s body parts are now formed, but they aren’t fully developed yet.

Its digestive system and small intestine is no longer tangled with the umbilical cord but is set neatly within the abdomen. Furthermore, most of your baby’s organs have begun to work on their own such as, its thyroid glands begin to secrete hormones.Check out how you can improve thyroid function using turmeric.

This week is when your baby enters the maintenance phase, where its bone marrow will make white blood cells, and start to develop the startle reflex aka Moro reflex, which allows it to hear sounds and react to them.

So you can start practicing your lullabies!

At 12 weeks, your baby weighs approximately 0.49 ounces and measures 2.13 inches, and is producing urine, which is directed into the pool of surrounding amniotic fluid.

Adding to this, its wrists and elbows bend, and fingernails and toenails are beginning to take shape.
